History

SmartMD was originally established in 1998 as a medical transcription firm, by a group of professionals including physicians, engineers and business people. Our founders’ ambitious vision was to be the premier medical transcription company delivering services with unparalleled accuracy and speed, while maintaining data privacy.

Initially, SmartMD filled the transcription needs for medical practices primarily in south Florida, but our excellent reputation soon spread to other areas of the country. As business increased steadily, through both organic growth and the acquisition of various smaller firms, we began expanding our scope of services.

Recently in 2005, the name was changed again to SmartMD, which more accurately reflects our valued partnership with thousands of doctors and hospitals in the U.S. Today, we rank among the nation’s premier medical practice service companies, with over 2500 employees. We remain committed to offering the highest quality service, quickest turnaround time and most affordable pricing in the industry.
